Leaf Miners

Color: Adults are often black to gray flies with yellow stripes and clear wings. Larvae, worm-like maggots are often pale yellow or green in color. They create clear winding tunnels, and leave behind a trail of black fecal material as they feed.

Length: Adults are 1/10″ long ; Larvae 1/3″

The leaf miner is the larva of an insect that lives in and eats the leaf tissue of plants.These insects will mine within the leaves of the plants and eventually will cause the leaves to drop since they will become skeletonized. The vast majority of leaf-mining insects are moths , sawflies and flies.
